Only twenty kilometres from Villa FILTON there is MOTOVUN the best preserved medieval fort in Istra. Nestled on a hillock above the valley of the river Mirna it boasts the longest outdoor stairway in Croatia with as many as 1052 steps. The history of Motovun is more than 3500 years old. Illyrians and Celts are embedded into its past and Jason and the Argonauts navigated the river Mirna. Mario Andretti, Formula One Champion, was born there. One of the most popular film festival in this part of the world takes place in Motovun every summer.
None of the Villa FITLON guests will stay indifferent to tastes and scents of truffles from the nearby Motovun forest, honey from the Mirna valley meadows in bloom, olives and extra virgin olive oils, mushrooms and herbs, varieties of cheeses and dry-cured ham called pršut, homemade noodles, wines and grappas – especially medenica (a honey flavoured grappa) and biska, jams and preserves and all other kinds of delicacies … as they are all there for them at the very front door of the Villa FILTON.
Villa FILTON is situated near Vižinada, a small rural town, which during summer offers many activities for the numerous tourists that visit it. There are Wine Cellar Open Days, a cycling marathon ‘Parenzana’ where every year more than 1500 amateur cyclist from all over the world enjoy the stunning scenery, annual encounters of poets in Čakavian dialect, traditional festival of Istrian cakes and pastries called ‘Slatka Istra’ where you can see and taste hundreds of traditional Istrian cakes.
Vižinada is the birthplace of one of the most famous world ballerinas Carlotta Grisi, the first ballerina to dance Giselle, and in whose honour many great ballet houses such as Bolshoi ballet and Croatian national theatre performed in Vižinada.

‘Kelly’s heroes’ directed by Brian Hutton and starring Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, Don Rickles, Carroll O’Connor and Donald Sutherland was filmed in Vižinada.
The town of Poreč is only 15 kilometres from Villa FILTON. It has been Croatian champion of tourism on many occasions as its rich and diverse tourist offer caters for different needs and taste. The Euphrasian basilica, a UNESCO World Heritage site, from the 6th century and one of the best preserved monuments of early Byzantine art is just one of many sites to visit.
Organised visits to Venice, Trieste, Croatian inland or Medjugorje can be done from Poreč.
Some of other places of interests are Grožnjan (15 km), a town of artists that offers its hospitality to painters and musicians from all over the world; Livade (17 km) with a world renowned restaurant where the biggest every found white truffle is displayed; Višnjan (11 km) with its observatory ; Pazin (30 km) and Pazin gorge which inspired Jules Verne to write one of his novels; Pula (64 km) – the site of a magnificent 1st century amphitheatre where Pula Film Festival takes place every summer. The nearest airport is also in Pula.
